Hello from somewhere in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea! We are day 14 aboard the lovely ship Adventure of the Seas...and the name has not lead us astray! So far we have opened 2 shows (Invitation to Dance and Can't Stop the Rock) and have been to 4 different ports. We are all beyond exhaustion but manage to keep going!
The shows have been going really well. Both the audiences and "management" have seemed pretty happy with our performances. Since we are in Europe Can't Stop the Rock is normally not performed because it is all American Rock songs that are usually hard for Europeans to relate to. {It has not been performed since June on the Adventure) Well, we opened with it last night (at 9:30 pm and 11:30 pm...yes OUCH!) to huge ovations. Pretty cool feeling! We opened Invitation to Dance a week ago (same performance times). It also went really well. After 2 months of rehearsing these shows it feels good to finally put them on a stage, with costumes, make-up and an audience. It makes you feel like all that blood, sweat and tears was for naught. So, for every cruise we will perform one show at the beginning of the week and one show at the end. So the beginning of this cruise (this past Sunday) we performed ITD. Well, Mother Nature had other ideas. A couple of hours before show time we came across a storm. All I can say is the curtains were swinging side to side----and so were the dancers! HA! In the opening number, we stand in a bowling pin formation. As soon as we turned around we all BUSTED out in laughter. So I guess I can now cross off dancing in a sea storm of my bucket list....
Unfortunately I have only been able to get off the boat twice. Once in Malaga and once in Palma de Mallorca. Palma was especially beautiful! The architecture was gorgeous and the weather couldn't have been better. We ended up eating at an italian restaurant that was TO DIE FOR! And of course, I make it a point to have a good true cup of European coffee (dad, I enjoy each for you :)!).
As is the theme in most of my blogs, things have been pretty difficult and frustrating at times, but we are all managing to make the best of everything. Our roommate situations have been sorted out. Background story: During rehearsals, we were told to choose who we would want to live with. Well, when we first signed on to the ship we found out that we were actually put with random crew members. But I am now living with Nicky and things are much better!! We have managed to find a Facilities manager to clean our room. So tonight we walked in to a shiny room with freshly made beds and a clean toilet! Background story: When I first got into my cabin, the room was STANK! Apparently the ice cast girl I was assigned to live with has been living with her husband and so the room has been empty. Well, they allowed a guest of an ice cast member to stay in the cabin where apparently a clog toilet and wet towels were left for 2 weeks....WELCOME HOME!! haha! So, needless to say I finally feel like this is a place I can sleep and call home! Such a good feeling...
Well, I probably should head to bed. We have tomorrow off until we run Jackpot tomorrow evening!! yay! I hope this finds everyone doing well! I have posted pictures onto my Picasa )http://picasaweb.google.com/nycked/Adventure#) so please check it out when you get a chance!
Sending my love
